What a lovely season. Kicked off the season with a Holiday-market-greenhouse 'Tour' at The Flower Bin and Harlequin's Gardens and The 21sr Annual Holiday Harp Concert. Then right into many advent spirals, a lovely solo concert in Vail, one of the sweetest ever house concerts in Boulder, a Solstice Yoga class with Jeanie and Ali, and ending with a candle light service Christmas Eve at St John's. A few ski days between Dec 25 and King's Day. I'm refreshed!.
Somehow, in the midst of all that- still had time to play a couple sets of Irish Music with Mice in the Mug at Le French!
Traditional Irish Music, every Sunday evening at License No. 1 -in the Boulderado Hotel (sneak down the outside stairs just to the left of main entrance on 13th). Open session for those who play Irish music. Lots of room for fans of Irish music to listen, chat, eat and have a pint.
You are welcome to contact me for more info about traditional Irish music in the Denver/Boulder area.
I'm often there, but not always, so get in touch if you're going because you want to hear me... Music starts at 7pm (Irish time). 21 and over. No cover.
I've known for years my beautiful Rydecki harp was nearing it's end. The crack in the neck had been getting worse and worse and finally, this August, made it unplayable. I won't lie, it's pretty rough loosing that harp- nothing sounds like it did.
This Serrana is my new love- I think it helps that's it's really different than the Rydecki. Extra light string tension makes playing jigs and reels fun. Narrower string spacing hasn't been much of an issue, except I have to watch my hands for now, until I get more used to it. The Serrana really comes alive when I plug it in.
Some of my pieces work better on the Serrana than others. I tend to compose to the harps' voice. It's exciting hearing this new voice, and I'm really excited to compose new pieces for it. Lots of texture and rhythm in this harp.
I think the bright upper range of the Serrana is perfect for Howard Blake's masterpiece, Walking In the Air. Let me know what you think. By the way, this arrangement is available from Harps Nouveau, Kolancy Musicin Denver. And I recorded it a few years back on 'Icy December' (on my pedal harp, which also has a lovely voice...)
